Marine Ropes cc ("Marine Ropes", "we", "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information. This policy explains what we
collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and your rights under Namibia's Electronic Transactions Act 4 of 2019 and South Africa's Protection of
Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA), given our cross-border SADC trade.
1. Who we are
Marine Ropes cc is a Namibian closed corporation, registered as Marine Ropes cc. Our Windhoek branch trades as R and L Lifting Gear
Namibia t/a Liftingear Namibia cc.
2. What we collect
We collect the following categories of personal information when you use this website:
- Account information: name, surname, email address, phone number, billing address, shipping address, password (hashed), only when you
register an account.
- Order information: products ordered, order totals, payment method (we do not store card details, these are handled by our payment
processor), delivery instructions.
- Communication: contact-form messages, quote requests, customer-support chat transcripts, email correspondence.
- Technical data: IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referring website, pages viewed, time spent on each page,
device type, approximate location (country or city level only).
- Cookies and similar technologies: see Section 6 below.

4. Who we share it with
We only share your personal information with third parties who provide services that help us run the business. We never sell or rent personal
information.
- Shipping carriers (e.g. Namib Express, Trentyre, courier companies), to deliver your order.
- Payment processors, to process payments you make to us.
- Hosting and infrastructure providers (UKHost4u, Plesk, Eukhost), who store and serve this website.
- Email service provider (mail.marine-ropes.com / MailEnable / Frappe Email Queue), to send you transactional and marketing emails.
- Analytics providers (Google Analytics 4), to understand how visitors use our website. See Section 6.
- Government authorities (NamRA, Bank of Namibia), only when legally required.
We require all third parties to keep your information confidential and use it only for the specific purpose we shared it with them.
5. Cross-border transfers
Some of our service providers (analytics, email, hosting) operate from outside Namibia and South Africa, primarily the United Kingdom, European Union, and
United States. Where personal information is transferred outside the SADC region, we rely on the contractual safeguards those providers offer (Standard
Contractual Clauses for EU transfers, equivalent contractual protections for the UK and US) to ensure your data continues to receive an adequate level of
protection.
6. Cookies and analytics
We use cookies and similar technologies for three purposes:
- Strictly necessary cookies: session ID, cart contents, login state. These cannot be disabled, the website will not function without
them.
- Functional cookies: language preference, currency selection, recently viewed products. You can clear these via your browser settings
without losing site functionality.
- Analytics cookies: Google Analytics 4 (property G-VHBSWMBG8L). These cookies measure aggregate visitor behaviour: page views, session
duration, traffic sources, geographic distribution. IP addresses are anonymised before storage. You can opt out via the Google Analytics opt-out browser
add-on.
7. How long we keep it
- Account information: for as long as your account is active. After account closure, we keep your information for 5 years to meet NamRA
tax obligations, then delete it.
- Order information: 5 years from the date of the transaction (NamRA requirement).
- Marketing consents: until you unsubscribe.
- Web analytics: 14 months (the configured retention period in Google Analytics).
- Customer-support chat transcripts: 12 months.
8. Your rights
Under POPIA and the Namibian ETA you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we hold about you
- Request a copy of that information
- Correct any inaccurate or out-of-date information
- Request that we delete your information (subject to our legal obligations to retain certain records)
- Object to direct marketing at any time
- Withdraw consent for any processing based on consent (this does not affect processing already carried out)
- Lodge a complaint with the South African Information Regulator if you believe we have mishandled your information (POPIA Section 74)
To exercise any of these rights, email admin@marine-ropes.com with the
subject line "Privacy Request" and we will respond within 30 days.
9. Security
We use the following technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information:
- HTTPS encryption across the entire website (Let's Encrypt SSL certificate, auto-renewed)
- Passwords stored as one-way hashes (we never see your actual password)
- Role-based access control inside the company, only staff who need information for their job role can access it
- Server-level firewall and bot-blocking rules
- Regular database backups
- Security headers (HSTS, X-Frame-Options, Content-Security-Policy)
No system is 100% secure. If we discover a breach affecting your personal information, we will notify the South African Information Regulator and you
within 72 hours, as required by POPIA Section 22.
10. Children's information
Our products are sold to adult customers and businesses. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If you become aware that
a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at admin@marine-ropes.com and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as our practices change or as the law requires. The effective date at the top of this page reflects the
latest version. Material changes will be communicated via a notice on our home page or via email to registered customers.
